Teachers should read this..

Have you ever encountered that humanistic word before? I bet yes.

So my English for Specific Purposes Theory & Practice (phewww...that's a long name) lecturer told us some stories and incidents happened during his trainee years.

He was a teacher trainee at a rural school and his job was, of course to teach students and being evaluated by his supervisor/lecturer.

The day he entered the classroom, class for bright students, he came up with what he thought the best teaching plan.

He can see the ecstatic looks from the students as they knew he's a trainee teacher. So,after introducing himself, he started to roll down his decorated huge paper on the board and starts teaching.

What he thought was the student would be interested with his ''new teaching method' as he came up with those maybe colorful decorated papers. As he continues his teaching a student rose up and told him,

''Sir,we have seen lots of that before, rather than teaching why dont we discuss on this recent news.''
At that time, there was an accident happened at Johor if i'm not mistaken, an airplane crashed. My lecturer was shocked, in a good way. He glanced at his supervisor for approval & he nodded as a signal for him to continue. Then my lecturer says "Ok. Let's discuss on what happened''.
So almost all of the student put newspapers on their desk !
And so they discuss on what might happened to the plane and all.

"Nobody is unteachable."
2nd incident, he was teaching in a not so bright class where all of the teachers gave up on them.As he teached he saw that none of the students gave attention,so he gave them a task. Divided in groups he asked them to find as much rocks as they can in didferent sizes and measure the lengths, describe the color, physical and all. They were so excited and gave their all to the task given and some of them spoke broken English to each other whilst discussing.
What an effort!

So the next days onwards he kept giving them tasks which involes outdoor activities.
In my point of view, it sparks hopes in their life that they're somewhat appreciated by the teacher although they're not so bright.

"Coming to school is an achievement itself."
Lastly, my lecturer notices that some of the students came late for school and he wondered why. Later he figured out that the journey from their home took sometimes hours just to get to school, walking. And an inconsiderate teacher even slaps them for being late without trying to figure out the reasons.

So the humanistic value is, no matter how hard & long the journey is the students still strives to get to the school, not on time but, they arrives at the school anyway. That's the point, to be at the school!

Honestly, I shed some tears while listening to him. There's alot of unfortunate people out there ..
